Why won't my old AVI file play on my phone or TV?
Old AVI files usually contain codecs from the 2000s (DivX, Xvid and others) that modern devices no longer ship support for. Converting to MP4 re-encodes the video with today's standard codec, so it plays without any extra software.
Will the converted video look better than the AVI?
Honest answer: no. Conversion preserves what's there - resolution and frame rate stay the same - but it can't invent detail the old camera never captured. What you gain is compatibility and a smaller, modern file, not a remaster.
Can I convert a whole folder of AVI files?
