Picking the right bitrate for the job
The bitrate slider is a trade between fidelity and file size, and the right setting depends on what's in the audio. Music benefits from higher bitrates - if the source is a concert or a song, choose the top setting and the MP3 keeps the detail worth keeping. Speech is far more forgiving: lectures, meetings and interviews stay perfectly intelligible at lower bitrates, and the smaller files matter when you're saving hours of talking.
One physical limit to know: extraction can't improve on the source. If the video's audio was recorded on a phone in a windy street, the MP3 will faithfully preserve that windy street. The converter keeps what's there - it doesn't remaster it.
