The voice memo problem, solved
The M4A file people most often need to convert isn't music - it's a recording. iPhone Voice Memos, interview recordings, band rehearsal captures and dictations all leave Apple devices as M4A. Send one to someone on an older car stereo, a Windows machine with a picky player, or a transcription service that only takes MP3, and you hit a wall.
Converting to MP3 removes every question mark: the file plays on anything built in the last twenty years, attaches cleanly to email, and is accepted by effectively every app that consumes audio. Upload the M4A, download the MP3, send it without a compatibility footnote.
What this converter honestly can't open
Not everything with an Apple audio extension will convert, and it's better to know before uploading. Songs downloaded through a streaming subscription - Apple Music included - are protected by DRM, and this tool does not and will not bypass that protection. The same goes for old iTunes Store purchases in the protected .m4p format from before iTunes went DRM-free.
What converts without trouble: your own recordings, voice memos, DRM-free purchases, files exported by audio apps, and any ordinary AAC audio you have the right to use. If it's yours or freely licensed, it converts; if it's locked to a subscription, the subscription's own app is the way to listen.

Is MA4 or MP4A the same as M4A?
Most of the time, yes in practice: people type MA4 or MP4A when they mean an M4A audio file from an iPhone, Voice Memos, iTunes or another AAC-based app. Upload the file here and convert it to MP3 if it is a regular, DRM-free M4A.
Will converting M4A to MP3 hurt the sound quality?
Both formats are compressed, so technically a tiny amount of detail is re-encoded away - but at a high MP3 bitrate the difference is inaudible in normal listening, and for voice recordings it's irrelevant. Keep the original M4A if you want a pristine master.
Can I convert songs from Apple Music?
No. Apple Music downloads are DRM-protected and this tool doesn't bypass DRM - honestly stated, by design. Your own recordings, DRM-free purchases and freely licensed audio all convert fine.
How do I get a voice memo off my iPhone to convert it?
In the Voice Memos app, tap the recording, choose Share, and save it to Files (or AirDrop it to a computer). Then open this page, upload that M4A from Files, and download the MP3 - all doable on the phone itself.
Is my recording kept after conversion?
No - files are processed temporarily and deleted automatically, and download links expire shortly after. That matters for voice memos especially, since they're often personal: nothing stays on our side.
Why does my car stereo play MP3 but not M4A?
Many car head units, USB players and older devices were built when MP3 was the only universal standard, and their firmware never learned AAC/M4A. Converting to MP3 meets those devices where they are - it's the format everything understands.
